

Categories of Membership
Active Registered Members
Individuals who are currently working as a cardiopulmonary technologist or in other closely related fields as approved by the Board of Directors.
(a) These individuals have successfully challenged the CACPT National Registry Examination.
(b) These individuals have paid the annual membership fee.
Benefits of Active Registered Membership are:
- Entitled to use the designations “R.C.P.T. (CP)”, Registered Cardio-Pulmonary Technologist (Cardio-Pulmonary); “R.C.P.T. (C)”, Registered Cardio-Pulmonary Technologist (Cardiac); or “R.C.P.T. (P)”, Registered Cardio-Pulmonary Technologist (Pulmonary), after their names for professional purposes.
- Entitled to attend and vote at all annual general meetings and special meetings of members.
- Leadership opportunities by serving on the Board of Directors as an elected or appointed officer as well as participate on the Education Committees and/or various working groups.
- The Pulmonary Function members can attend either the Canadian Respiratory Care Conference or the Annual PFT symposium. Opportunities to contribute to conferences as presenters.
- Education sharing on the CACPT website.
- First in line for Job Postings that are posted on the CACPT website (cacpt.ca) and emailed to members.
Student/Registration Eligible Members
Are individuals who are preparing and training to challenge the CACPT National Registry Examination. Successful candidates become Active Registered Members. Application for challenging the CACPT National Registry Examination
(a) These individuals have attained the minimum educational requirements, such as a

- Bachelor of Science Degree in one of the following areas: Physiology, Biology, Kinesiology, or the equivalent as decided by the CACPT Board of Directors
- Registered Nurse
- Major Medical Technologies Registration; including Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT), Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT), Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).

(b) These individuals are receiving 1800 of practical training as approved by the Education Committee.
(c) These individuals have paid the annual membership fee.
Any Student/Registry eligible member who fails to achieve Active Registered Membership status after three (3) attempts at the CACPT National Registry Examinations will cease to be a Student/Registration Eligible Member.
Inactive Registered Member
These individuals have temporarily ceased to be actively engaged in cardiopulmonary technology due to such reasons as maternity leave, illness, etc. These individuals will continue to pay a reduced annual membership fee. This allows members to return to Active Registered Membership without penalty. These members can only remain “inactive” for a period of 3 years. After such a time this individual may need to reapply as a student/registry eligible member and rechallenge the National Registry Exam
Certified Pulmonary Technician in Spirometry Member
These individuals are actively engaged in performing spirometry or in other closely related fields as approved by the Board of Directors.
a) These individuals have challenged the National Spirometry Certification Examination, after a period of suitable training in spirometry approved by the board. Application for challenging the Spirometry Certification Exam
(b) These individuals have paid the annual membership fee.
Benefits of a Certified Pulmonary Technician in Spirometry Membership:
- Entitled to use the designation “C.P.T. (S)”, Certified Spirometry Technician, after their names for professional purposes.
- Entitled to attend annual general meetings and special meetings of members but not entitled to vote. Issues of concern can be presented to the Board for consideration.
- Entitled to be appointed to committees.
- Not entitled to hold an elected or appointed office of the Corporation.
- Entitled to attend either the Canadian Respiratory Care Conference or the Annual PFT symposium. Opportunities to contribute to conferences as presenters.
- Education sharing on the CACPT website.
- First in line for Job Postings that are posted on the CACPT website (www.cacpt.ca) and emailed to members.
Supporting Members
These individuals shall be directly interested in or associated with the practice of cardio-pulmonary technology and who desire to support the objectives of the Association. These members must be approved by a resolution of the board. Annual membership fees must be paid.
Associate Members
Any company or organization that is actively engaged in the manufacture, development. or servicing of scientific instruments and/or materials or a society or organization of scientific fields related to that of physiology shall be eligible to be an Associate Member. These members must be approved by a resolution of the board. Annual membership fees must be paid.
Benefits for Associate Members are:
- not entitled to vote on any matters of the Association or to hold elected office;
- entitled to attend the Annual PFT symposium and opportunities to contribute to conferences as presenters.

- entitled to attend annual and general meetings of members
- entitled to promote their company in the newsletter/website.
